Dear Esteemed Reader,
As an English student I’ve had the urge to write a blog for some time – it feels like more of an obligation than a decision – but have resisted this urge for the fear that nobody would be interested in the day-to-day musing of a final year undergraduate. Although I still believe this is probably true, I now, at very least, have an excuse.
Earlier this year my flatmate, Andy, suggested that we start brewing beer in our cosy little converted loft flat in Aberystwyth. Being a real ale fan I instantly agreed and we set about buying instruction books and equipment. For reasons I am likely to touch on in subsequent posts, it has taken considerably longer than we’d hoped to be in a position where we can start experimenting and mucking things up, but we are finally here! The aim of this blog is to document the hopeful successes and inevitable failures of this project. We hope that people will either find it mildly amusing or offer us sage brewing advice, or even both.
While it would clearly be dangerous to start fermenting an alcoholic beverage without some prior investigation and reading-up, we are approaching brewing with a certain degree of wilful ignorance. We believe it will be more fun this way, and should provide more interesting blogging material. If you think we’re talking rubbish and merely adding to the vast pile of clutter that forms a big chunk of the Internet, you’re probably right, but for all those willing to donate advice, have a quiet giggle, or are given to a sense of schadenfreude...
Welcome to The Bridge Street Brew Blog!
Lots of love,
Malcolm (and Andy)
